Dressed for peace

Vocational students to get single uniform nationwide in effort to stop lethal feuds
The Education Ministry is organising a contest in October to design a student uniform. The winning design will become the uniform for vocational school students nationwide from next year.
Deputy Education Minister Narisara Chawaltanpipat said the idea of the contest was to tackle the problem of fights and feuds between gangs of students from different schools who recognised each other by their different uniforms.
The criteria for the contest were being set to ensure the winning uniforms would be modern, appropriate for study in class and safe for vocational workshop sessions, she said.
       Handson degrees
Narisara also reported on a project to launch 19 vocational institutes to provide bachelor degree programmes emphasising handson training. She said the Vocational Education Commission had submitted the case for her consideration and she would be passing it onto the Education Minister for approval by the Cabinet. She expects the institutes to be open by next year.
