PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY IS HONORED TO CONFER AN HONONARY DOCTORATE DEGREE IN POLITICAL SCIENCE UPON HIS HIGHNESS SHAIKH KHALIFA BIN SALMAN AL KHALIFA PRIME MINISTER OF THE KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN
His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, received his education in the United Kingdom. His great interest lies in internaitonal politics and economics. In 1958 he joined the Government of Bahrain and was appointed as the Acting Secretary of the Government. He, then, had held several key positions such as the Minister of Finance and the President of the State of Council before being appointed Prime Minister in 1971, post he has been holding up to the present.
His Highness is lauded as an exemplary Prime Minister with utmost determination and commitment to laead his nation towards prosperity. In recognition of his impressive efforts made in the act of uplifting the living standards of the people of Bahrain through the implementation of urban development and poverty alleviation programs, the Special Citation of the UN-HABITAT Scroll of Honour Award was presented to His Highness by the UN Secretary-General in 2006. He is also a statesman with a crucial role in promoting friendship in internatonal relations in the region and global community. His being awarded with "King Abdulaziz Medal", an honour given to world senion leaders by His Majesty King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is a testimony to his statesmanship.
Prince of Songkla University Council hereby confers upon His Higness Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Degree of Doctor of Political Science Honoris Causa in his honour and as an everlasting symbol of the long-standing relationship between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
